Gary, Kevin & Shane

They are three brilliant individuals who became friends when they were placed in one of our supported shared accommodation in Leicester.

Gary is a survivor of abuse and has been in The Housing Network’s support system for seven months.

“Before I became homeless, I was in a band. Things were going well, then suddenly, things got complicated, and I found myself fleeing violence”.

Kevin on the other hand, has been homeless for eight years and was recently released from prison. “I was just so grateful to have a place to stay that I couldn’t think of anything else. Eight years? Can you believe it?”

He has been a resident in one of our homes for eight months.

Then there’s Shane, who’s been a resident of The Housing Network’s accommodation for six months. He was released from prison after six years and having nowhere to go, he turned to the Dawn Centre in Leicester and eventually got in contact with The Housing Network.

These three men quickly became friends, and they are making significant strides in their personal lives.

Shane says he’s grateful for The Housing Network as the organization has helped him get on the straight and narrow path and put him in touch with good people along the way.

“Most people write you off once they hear prison, The Housing Network never did. I have better support than I did in prison and every day, I want to be better. They encourage me, the staff are brilliant, and my housemates and friends encourage me every day. In the future, I’d like to get my own place and settle down” Kevin says.

Gary says he cannot measure the impact of THN in his life. He hopes others can reach out to The Housing Network just like he did and get the help they need. He hopes to get his own place and maybe start a band again.

We believe that when life gets tough, everyone deserves a safe and stable place to plan and build and that is why we do our best to provide this.
