Housing Network wins B Corp accreditation for ethical and sustainable business practices

We have achieved certification as a B Corporation (B Corp), reflecting our commitment to tackling homelessness through sustainable housing solutions and person-centred support.

B Corp certification, awarded by the non-profit B Lab, recognises businesses meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Certified companies commit to balancing profit with purpose and embedding stakeholder considerations into their governance. There are now more than 2,500 UK B Corps and over 9,500 worldwide.

Our B Corp Journey

We work with public bodies, including local authorities and central government departments, including the Ministry of Justice, as well as landlords, to provide safe, fully furnished homes and trauma-informed, person-centred support to vulnerable single people and families across the country.

To achieve B Corp certification, businesses must complete a detailed assessment of their impact across governance, workers, community, the environment and customers, scoring at least 80 out of 200 points and making legal changes to embed purpose in their decision making.

Gary Teper, our Managing Director, said: “Becoming a B Corp reflects our belief that the housing and supporting solutions we provide are about more than bricks and mortar, it is about delivering homes with dignity and providing support so people can rebuild their lives. This certification shows our commitment to doing better for residents and partners, and to continuously improving our social and environmental impact.”

Our Approach

As part of becoming a B Corp, we were audited on our operations, from staff support and engagement through to sustainable supply chains, to partnerships with landlords and public authorities. The results evidence our focus on providing safe homes and creating strong relationships along with practical support, underpinned by data and shared insight to improve outcomes. Our commitment to the environment was also reviewed.

Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome The Housing Network to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies that are committed to changing how businesses operates and believe business really can be a force for good. We know that The Housing Network is going to be fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward”.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

We implement initiatives to reduce our environmental impact and promote sustainability. These include:

– Promoting Energy Efficiency: Through our partnerships, we advocate for energy-efficient practices in the properties we manage. This includes encouraging our landlord partners to invest in energy-saving appliances, LED lighting, and insulation to reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills for residents.

– Our Net Zero Commitment
